Most Improved Store

Who Can Enter?

This award is open to all independent retailers, affiliated or non-affiliated. Judges will be looking for clear evidence of positive developments over a maximum two-year period to 1 April 2012.

Entry Criteria
Entrants will need to provide a 600-word written statement as to why their store should win the award, focusing on three key areas:

Choice

How do you ensure you are stocking the best-selling lines and offering choice to your customers, not just a range?

  • How do you make sure you have the correct balance between brands and own-brands?
  • What innovations have you introduced to your store and how has this affected your performance? For example, how have you used new products? Do you stock regional lines?

Please use appropriate EPoS data to support any statements made.

Price

  • How are you maintaining competitive prices?
  • How do you offer shoppers great value? How do you communicate this to them, and what is the most important element to this?
  • Demonstrate effective use of a promotional programme and evidence of its performance.

Customer Service

Provide at least three specific examples of customer service initiatives implemented in the last 12 months and the results achieved as a result.

  • What has been the most significant improvement you have made to your store?
  • How are you involved in your community?

You should also provide details of:
Store sales area in square feet, opening hours, total number of staff employed, turnover 12 months ago, turnover today. Supporting documents should be provided where appropriate.

Special award for 2012 – Tobacco Opportunity Award
Booker will be rewarding a retailer who has demonstrated that they have risen to the challenge and seized the opportunity that the tobacco display ban has provided to the independent sector this year.

Entry Criteria
Entrants need to provide 300 word statements as to why the store should win the award, focusing on the five key steps recommended by Booker. Photographic evidence will be required. The five steps are: exterior, interior, choice, price, service.
