Meat Retailer of the Year
Who Can Enter?
This category is open to multiple retailers (10 stores or more) who stock pre-packaged beef, pork and lamb. Entrants may also have fresh serve-over counters.
Entry Criteria
STAGE ONE: PAPER ENTRIES
Entrants should address the following criteria, covering the 12 months to 1 April 2011:
- Performance/sales indicators (not necessarily absolute value figures, but percentage increases)
- Meat category development
- Quality assurance measures throughout the supply chain
- Training initiatives introduced, e.g. how to cook certain cuts, effective merchandising
- Examples of innovation and differentiation
- Examples of ‘joined-up’ supply chain leadership to benefit all stakeholders
- Policy and initiatives to reduce the category’s environmental impact, e.g. sustainable procurement, reducing carbon footprint
- Methods employed to communicate quality assurance messages to consumers, e.g. in-store, on-pack
STAGE TWO: SHORTLISTING
The judging panel will evaluate entrants against the criteria outlined above and will establish a shortlist of three. Shortlisted retailers will be given the opportunity to each select three stores to receive an unannounced store visit by our judges.
Key criteria for the store visit will include:
- High standards of hygiene
- Good merchandising, e.g. well laid-out fixture, minimal out-of-stocks
- Visible promotional offers and plinth ends
- Compliance/visibility of quality assurance scheme
- Good range
- Consistency across estate
- Staff knowledge
- Customer service
Selection of the overall winner will be based on the combined outcome of stages one and two.
